a man from the Banū ʿĀmir came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) — and he used to treat and heal — and said: "O Muḥammad! You say certain things, so do you want me to treat you?" The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) then invited him to Allāh, and then said: ... and he mentioned the ḥadīth. The ʿĀmirī said: "By Allāh! I will never deny what you say." Then he said: "O people of Banū Ṣaʿṣaʿah! By Allāh! I will never deny anything he says." I said: And this isnād is authentic, its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim]. And al-Aʿmash has another shaykh in it, who said: from Abū Ẓabyān from Ibn ʿAbbās with a similar narration, but he said at the end: "The ʿĀmirī said: 'O people of Banū ʿĀmir! I have never seen a man more enchanting today!'" It was recorded by al-Dārimī (1/13), Aḥmad (1/223), and also by al-Bayhaqī (6/15-16). I said: And its isnād is also authentic. And it was followed by Samāk from Abū Ẓabyān with it, except that he said: "The Bedouin embraced Islam." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (2/1/3), and from him by al-Tirmidhī (3632), Ibn Saʿd (1/182), al-Ḥākim (2/620), and through his route: also by al-Bayhaqī (6/15), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (12/110/12622) from the narration of Sharīk from him. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth!" And al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim!" And al-Dhahabī agreed with him! Thus they both said! And Sharīk — who is Ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Qāḍī — Muslim did not record from him except as a follow-up; due to weakness in him.
