and al-Tirmidhī said: "This is a mursal ḥadīth; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylá did not hear from Muʿādh ibn Jabal, as Muʿādh died during the caliphate of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, and ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb was killed when ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā was a boy of six years. This is how Shuʿbah narrated from al-Ḥakam from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā; and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā did narrate from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb and saw him. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā was known by the kunya Abū ʿĪsá, and Abū Laylā's name was Yasār. It is narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā that he said: I met one hundred and twenty of the Anṣār, from the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." I said: This is narrated in the book "al-ʿIlm" (no. 21, in my verification) by Abū Khaythamah; refer to it. As for the ḥadīth of Ibn Masʿūd: it was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Ṣaghīr" (2/91) and "al-Awsaṭ" (7022), and through his route by al-Khaṭīb in "Tārīkh" (3/399); in its isnād there is weakness and objection, due to Abū Ṭaybah—ʿĪsá ibn Sulaymān—as he attributed it to Ibn Masʿūd! It is actually the ḥadīth of Muʿādh. It is included in my work "al-Rawḍ al-Naḍīr" (635). As for the ḥadīth of Ubayy ibn Kaʿb: it was narrated by al-Nasāʾī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (391) through the route of al-Faḍl ibn Mūsá from Yazīd ibn Ziyād from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb ... in a similar manner
