he said: how long was it between him and Noah? He said: "Ten centuries." he said: how long was it between Noah and Abraham? He said: "Ten centuries." they said: O Messenger of Allāh! How many were the messengers? He said: "Three hundred and fifteen, a large multitude." al-Ḥākim said—and the context is his: "Authentic according to the criteria of Muslim." and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. al-Ṭabarānī said: "Muʿāwiyah ibn Salām was unique in narrating it." I said: and he is trustworthy, from the men of Muslim, as al-Ḥākim indicated. al-Haythamī said (8/210): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and its men are the men of the authentic collections, except for Aḥmad ibn Khalīd al-Ḥalabī, and he is trustworthy." I said: he is among those from whom al-Ṭabarānī narrated extensively in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ," where he narrated eighty ḥadīths from him (388-468), and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (8/53), and al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī said about him in "al-Siyar" (13/489): "I know of no fault in him."
قال: كم بينه وبين نوح؟ قال: "عشرة قرون". قال: كم كان بين نوح وإبراهيم؟ قال: "عشرة قرون". قالوا: يا رسول الله! كم كانت الرسل؟ قال: "ثلاث مئة وخمسة عشر، جمّاً غفيراً". وقال الحاكم- والسياق له-: "صحيح على شرط مسلم". ووافقه الذهبي. وقال الطبراني: "تفرد به معاوية بن سلام". قلت: وهو ثقة من رجال مسلم، كما أشار إلى ذلك الحاكم. وقال الهيثمي (٨/٢١٠): "رواه الطبراني، ورجاله رجال الصحيح؛ غير أحمد بن خليد الحلبي، وهو ثقة". قلت: هو ممن أكثر عنهم الطبراني في "المعجم الأوسط"، فروى له فيه ثمانين حديثاً (٣٨٨- ٤٦٨)، وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات" (٨/٥٣)، وقال فيه الحافظ الذهبي في "السير" (١٣/٤٨٩): "ما علمت به بأساً".
