a kindness from Allāh and a subtlety from Him in facilitating what must inevitably be faced, and submitting to the decree of His judgment. He said: And the meaning of His saying, "I have never hesitated about anything I am going to do as I hesitate about taking the soul of the believer; he dislikes death..." is similar to His sending His messenger, the Angel of Death, to His Prophet Mūsá (peace be upon him), regarding what he disliked about the coming of death to him. Abū Sulaymān al-Khaṭṭābī mentioned this meaning in his book in response to those who criticized this ḥadīth and others like it from the people of innovation and atheists—may Allāh destroy them and protect the Muslims from their evil.

- (O Ibn Rawāḥah! Dismount and stir the mounts). It was narrated by al-Nasāʾī in "al-Sunan al-Kubrā" (5/70/8251), as well as by al-Bayhaqī (10/227) through the route of ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rawāḥah: that he was with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) on a journey, and he said to him: (and he mentioned it). He said: O Messenger of Allāh! I have left that, so ʿUmar said to him: Listen and obey. He then threw himself and said: O Allāh, if not for You, we would not have been guided, nor given charity, nor prayed, so send down tranquility upon us and make firm our steps if we meet [the enemy]. I said: And this isnād is weak, its men are trustworthy, but it has two defects: the first is the disconnection between Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rawāḥah, as al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Mizzī said in "al-Tuhfah" (4/319)
