and its chain of transmission is good in my estimation; ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Hurayr was narrated from by others, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (7/151), and his father was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Maʿīn and others. There is a route narrated by Abū Balj from ʿAbāyah ibn Rifāʿah that his grandfather passed away and left behind a slave woman who earned income, so they mentioned that to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he disliked the earnings of the slave woman and said: "Perhaps she will find nothing and will seek [to earn] by herself." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (4/328/4408). I said: Its chain of transmission is good but mursal. It was also recorded by Aḥmad (4/141), and by al-Ṭabarānī as well (number 4405) through another route from ʿAbāyah ibn Rifāʿah in a shortened form, without his saying: "Perhaps she..." etc.; but Aḥmad added: "Shuʿbah said: out of fear that she might seek [to earn]." Perhaps this is the origin of the addition that appeared in the previous narration of Ibn Ḥibbān, where some narrators mistakenly included it in the ḥadīth. It has also been reported as elevated from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās with a weak chain, which I mention to clarify its status; it is narrated by Suwwār ibn Muṣʿab from ʿAṭiyyah al-ʿAwfī who said: I heard Ibn ʿAbbās say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) forbade the earnings of slave women. I asked Ibn ʿAbbās: Why did he forbid it? He said: Out of fear that they might become unable and commit immorality. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (12/129/12673)
وإسناده حسن في نقدي؛ عبيد الله بن هرير روى عنه آخرون، وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات " (٧/ ١٥١)، وأبوه وثقه ابن معين وغيره. وله طريق يرويه أبو بلجٍ عن عَبَاية بن رِفَاعة أن جده توفي وترك أَمَة تُغلّ، فذكروا ذلك لرسول الله ﷺ، فكره كسب الأمة، وقال: "لعلها لا تجد شيئاً، فتبتغي بنفسها". أخرجه الطبراني في "المعجم الكبير" (٤/٣٢٨/٤٤٠٨). قلت: وإسناده جيد مرسل. وأخرجه أحمد (٤/١٤١)، والطبراني أيضاً (برقم ٤٤٠٥) من طريق أخرى عن عباية بن رفاعة به مختصراً، دون قوله: "لعلها ... " إلخ؛ لكن زاد أحمد: "قال شعبة: مخافة أن تبغي ". ولعل هذا هو أصل تلك الزيادة التي وقعت في رواية ابن حبان المتقدمة، وهِم بعض الرواة فأدرجها في الحديث. وقد جاءت مرفوعة من حديث ابن عباس بإسناد واهٍ، أذكره لبيان حاله؛ يرويه سوَّار بن مصعب عن عطية العوفي قال: سمعت ابن عباس يقول: نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن كسب الإماء. قلت لابن عباس: ولم نهى عنه؟ قال: مخافة أن يعجزن فيفجرن. أخرجه الطبراني في "المعجم الكبير" (١٢/١٢٩/١٢٦٧٣).
