that providing for one's family is in the path of Allāh as is apparent, and from this, I infer that the man was not an advocate of his innovation; otherwise, he would not have narrated a ḥadīth that undermines it. Thus, in narration, he is truthful as Abū Zurʿah said—may Allāh have mercy on him. Moreover, the ḥadīth has numerous supporting narrations from various Companions, among them: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar with a similar account. It was recorded by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan" (7/479) and "al-Shuʿab" (6/412/8710) through the chain of narration from Sharīk, from al-Aʿmash, from Maghrāʾ al-ʿAbdī, from him. This isnād is considered good at least for supporting evidence, and Ibn Ḥibbān and al-ʿAjlī deemed Maghrāʾ reliable, and a group narrated from him. Among them: from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah; narrated by Ismāʿīl ibn Muslim al-Makkī from al-Ḥakam ibn ʿUtaybah from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā from him. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (19/129/282), "al-Ṣaghīr" (193-Hind), and "al-Awsaṭ" (6835), and (5/169/2862 Majmaʿ al-Baḥrayn); and he said: "It is not narrated from Kaʿb except through this isnād." I said: It is weak, due to the weakness of Ismāʿīl ibn Muslim al-Makkī, and al-Mundhirī erred (3/4) and al-Haythamī followed him (4/325) saying—and the wording is his: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in the three, and its men are the men of the authentic collections"! It appears that they confused this Ismāʿīl with (Ismāʿīl ibn Muslim al-ʿAbdī al-Baṣrī); for he is trustworthy and from the first generation!
العيال من سبيل الله كما هو ظاهر، ومنه أستظهر أن الرجل لم يكن داعية إلى بدعته، وإلا؛ لما روى من الحديث ما يهدمها، فهو في الرواية صدوق كما قال أبو زرعة- ﵀. هذا؛ وللحديث شواهد كثيرة عن غير واحد من الصحابة، منهم: عبد الله بن عمر نحوه. أخرجه البيهقي في "السنن " (٧/٤٧٩) و"الشعب " (٦/٤١٢/ ٨٧١٠) من طريق شريك عن الأعمش عن مَغراء العَبدي عنه. وهذا إسناد حسن في الشواهد على الأقل، و (مغراء) وثقه ابن حبان والعجلي، وروى عنه جمع. ومنها: عن كعب بن عُجرة؛ يرويه إسماعيل بن مسلم المكي عن الحكم بن عتيبة عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى عنه. أخرجه الطبراني في "المعجم الكبير" (١٩ /١٢٩/٢٨٢) و"الصغير" (١٩٣-هند) و" الأ وسط " (٦٨٣٥) ، و (٥/١٦٩ /٢٨٦٢ مجمع البحرين) ؛ وقال:"لا يروى عن كعب إلا بهذا الإسناد". قلت: وهو ضعيف، لضعف إسماعيل بن مسلم المكي، ووهم المنذري (٣/٤) وتبعه الهيثمي (٤/٣٢٥) فقالا- واللفظ لهذا-:"رواه الطبراني في الثلاثة، ورجاله رجال الصحيح "! والظاهر أنهما توهما (إسماعيل) هذا (إسماعيل بن مسلم العبدي البصري) ؛ فإنه ثقة ومن طبقة الأول!
