and Abū Yaʿlá (3/1716) from various chains, including: Sufyān and Shuʿbah from Abū Isḥāq from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib with it; some adding to others as we indicated by placing the additions in brackets, and we noted the sources in the footnotes. The ḥadīth has supporting evidence from the ḥadīth of Anas, narrated by Zakariyyā ibn Yaḥyá who said: I heard Thābit al-Bunānī narrating from him with the wording: "He used to say on the day of the trench: By Allāh, if it were not for Allāh, we would not have been guided, nor given charity, nor prayed, so send tranquility upon us." It was recorded by al-Bazzār (2/332/1804) in this way; without his saying: "and make firm our feet if we meet [the enemy]"! So I do not know if it was omitted by the copyist or by one of its narrators?! For it has weakness, contrary to what al-Haythamī said after it (6/133): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār and Abū Yaʿlá, and its men are trustworthy"! So I say: Zakariyyā ibn Yaḥyá—who is Abū Yaḥyá al-Dhāriʿ—no one explicitly declared him trustworthy, except Ibn Ḥibbān by including him in his book "al-Thiqāt" (6/334), and yet he criticized him for poor memory, saying: "he makes mistakes." Al-Ḥāfiẓ adopted this; he said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but makes mistakes."
