and al-Bazzār (1/13/11) - in a summarized form - from the route of Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād from ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿĀṣim from his grandfather ʿUmar, who said: We were with the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a military expedition, and we said: O Messenger of Allāh! The enemy has arrived and they are well-fed, while the people are hungry?! The Anṣār said: Should we not slaughter our camels to feed the people?! The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Whoever has surplus food, let him bring it." So they began bringing the mudd and the ṣāʿ, in greater and lesser amounts, until all that was in the army amounted to a little over twenty ṣāʿs. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sat beside it and invoked blessings, then said: "Take, but do not snatch." So a man would take in his bag and in his cloak, and they took in their containers; until a man would tie the sleeve of his shirt and fill it, and they finished while the food remained as it was! Then the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is weak due to the known poor memory of ʿĀṣim and Yazīd, but that does not prevent using them for supporting evidence and strengthening their ḥadīth with corroborations. For this reason, I have included it here; as this story and ḥadīth have many corroborating reports, some of which are in the "Ṣaḥīḥ": including the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah - or Abū Saʿīd; al-Aʿmash was uncertain - who said: When it was the expedition of Tabūk, the people were afflicted with hunger; they said: O Messenger of Allāh! If only you would permit us to slaughter our camels, so we could eat and use the fat ... the ḥadīth continues in a similar manner, and he said at the end: ".. no servant meets Allāh with them without doubt, and is barred from Paradise."
