that Sulaimān ibn Ḥabīb al-Muḥāribī narrated to me from Abū Umāmah in a marfūʿ manner. I said: And this isnād has trustworthy and well-known men, except for Ayyūb ibn Muḥammad al-Saʿdī, as it appears in the narration of Abū Dāwūd. The ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Tahdhīb": "And Abū Zurʿah al-Dimashqī, Yazīd ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Ṣamad, Hārūn ibn Abī Jamīl, Abū Ḥātim, and others narrated from Abū al-Jahār, saying: 'Ayyūb ibn Mūsá.'" Ibn ʿAsākir said: "And this is correct." I said: The narration of Hārūn ibn Abī Jamīl was brought out by Ibn ʿAsākir in his biography in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (17/493/1), but in our copy of it, it appears as "Abū Ayyūb ibn Mūsá." It seems that "Kaʿb" was omitted, as he is Abū Kaʿb Ayyūb ibn Mūsá. There is another difference in his name, as al-Dūlābī narrated in "al-Kuná" (2/133) as follows: ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb - Ṣaʿīd - narrated to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān Abū al-Jahār narrated to us, saying: Abū Mūsá Kaʿb al-Saʿdī narrated to us from Sulaimān ibn Ḥabīb - without the middle clause. This is not a typographical error or from some copyists, as al-Dūlābī mentioned it in "The Chapter of Those Whose Kunyah is Mūsá" and then listed those with this kunyah among the narrators, saying "... and Abū Mūsá Kaʿb al-Saʿdī from Sulaimān ibn Ḥabīb, narrated by Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān Abū al-Jahār." In any case, the correct version, as Ibn ʿAsākir said, is "Ayyūb ibn Mūsá," as the group agreed upon it. Then, al-Dhahabī included him in "al-Mīzān," saying: "Only Abū al-Jahār narrated from him, but he considered him trustworthy." I said: Ibn Abī Ḥātim remained silent about him (1/1/258), and the ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful."
