(1) Narrated by Aḥmad and others; it is included in "al-Ṣaḥīḥah" (1674) and "al-Irwāʾ" (1208). Ibn Yaʿqūb al-Rukhāmī: narrated to us by Zayd ibn Yaḥyá ibn ʿUbayd al-Dimashqī: narrated to us by Saʿīd ibn Bashīr from Qatādah from Anas who said: the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. And he said: "It is rare from the narration of Anas." I said: Its narrators are trustworthy; except that Saʿīd ibn Bashīr—despite his memorization—some have criticized him, and a group of ḥadīth scholars have declared him reliable; contrary to what some contemporary writers, who are strict against women, have claimed—that he is very weak, misleading readers into thinking he has no supporters, which is contradicted by reality, among them the leader of the imams, al-Bukhārī. Even al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī in "al-Kāshif" did not add more than saying about him—after describing him as (al-ḥāfiẓ); and added in "al-Siyar" (truthful)—: "al-Bukhārī said: they criticize his memorization, and it is tolerable." Duḥaym said: "Trustworthy, our elders considered him reliable." I have responded to those who ignore his reliability, and to others like them who are strict, in my new book: "al-Radd al-Mufḥim ʿalá man Khālaf al-ʿUlamāʾ wa-Tashaddad wa-Taʿaṣṣab..." May Allāh facilitate its completion and publication by His grace and generosity. For this reason; when al-Haythamī attributed this ḥadīth in "al-Majmaʿ" (10/65) to al-Bazzār and remarked on its rarity, he followed it by saying: "I said: it includes Saʿīd ibn Bashīr, and there is a difference of opinion about him, some declared him reliable, others weakened him, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy." I said: So, someone like him is moderately good in ḥadīth by itself, or at least by others, and based on this I proceeded in strengthening his ḥadīth: "When a woman reaches puberty, nothing should be seen of her except her face and her hands"; refer to my book with its new title: "Jilbāb al-Marʾah al-Muslimah."
