and the ḥadīths have been transmitted in abundance from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he informed of the descent of ʿĪsá (ʿalayhi al-salām) before the Day of Resurrection as a just leader and a fair judge. I said: And I have referenced some of them earlier under number (2236), and in "Takhrīj Faḍāʾil al-Shām" (22, 23, 25, and 26).

- "I spent the night reciting to the jinn, companions at 'al-Ḥajūn'." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (1768), al-Ṭabarī in "al-Tafsīr" (26/21), Aḥmad (1/416), Abū Yaʿlá (8/474/5062), and Abū al-Shaykh in "al-ʿAẓamah" (5/1664/1104) through two chains from Ibn Shihāb from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: ... and he mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is authentic, its men are trustworthy; except that it is disconnected; for ʿUbayd Allāh—who is Ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUtbah ibn Masʿūd—did not hear from Ibn Masʿūd; as they mentioned in his biography, rather al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Mizzī said in "Tuḥfat al-Ashrāf" (7/90): "He did not meet him." As for what is found in "al-ʿAẓamah" from his saying: "Ibn Masʿūd narrated to me"; it is an error by Muḥammad ibn ʿAzīz, or from his teacher Salāmah, who is Ibn Rūḥ ibn Khālid—the nephew of ʿAqīl ibn Khālid—, and he is the narrator from Ibn Shihāb, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said about Salāmah: "Truthful but makes mistakes, and it was said: he did not hear from his uncle (ʿAqīl), but rather narrates from his books." And he said about Muḥammad ibn ʿAzīz: "He is weak, and there was discussion about the authenticity of his hearing from his cousin Salāmah."
