- Allāh, the Exalted, said: "When I test My believing servant, and he does not complain about Me to his visitors, I release him from his captivity, then I replace his flesh with better flesh and his blood with better blood, then he resumes his deeds." It was narrated by al-Ḥākim in "al-Mustadrak" (1/349) and through him by al-Bayhaqī in "Sunan" (3/375) via Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī, who narrated from ʿĀṣim ibn Muḥammad ibn Zayd, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. He said: "Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, but they did not narrate it." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him in "Talkhīṣ." As for "al-Muhadhdhab," which is an abridgment of Sunan al-Bayhaqī, it indicated that it has a defect, saying: "The six did not narrate it, due to its defect." It seems he meant by this the suspension, as al-Bayhaqī narrated it after this marfūʿ [elevated] narration from the path of Abū Ṣakhr Ḥumayd ibn Ziyād, that Saʿīd al-Maqburī narrated to him, saying: I heard Abū Hurayrah say: "Allāh said: I test My believing servant, and if he does not complain to his visitors about that, I release him from my bond, and replace his blood with better blood and his flesh with better flesh, then I say to him: Resume your deeds." I say: Its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim, except that Abū Ṣakhr has some criticism regarding his memory, and in "Taqrīb": "Truthful but makes mistakes."
