ḥadīths on moving the finger during the tashahhud, and the refutation of those who deny it

- (he would point with his index finger during the prayer). Narrated by Aḥmad (3/407), and al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (2/1/296) through the chain of Sufyān from Manṣūr from Abū Saʿīd al-Khuzāʿī from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abzá that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) ... and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is good; all its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for this Abū Saʿīd. And Jarīr said: from Manṣūr from Rāshid Abū Saʿd; it was also narrated by Aḥmad, and in his biography, al-Bukhārī mentioned him without any criticism. Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt," and named his father as Saʿd, saying (6/303): "Rāshid ibn Saʿd Abū Saʿd, narrates from ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr, narrated from him Manṣūr and al-Aʿmash." The commentator said: "Neither al-Bukhārī, nor Ibn Abī Ḥātim, nor the author of 'al-Tahdhīb' named his father." I say: He is not in "al-Tahdhīb" at all; so be aware. The ḥadīth has supporting evidence confirming its authenticity from the narration of a group of Companions: Firstly, Abū Ḥumayd al-Sāʿidī in his description of the Prophet's (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) tashahhud said: "then he points in supplication with one finger."
