first: the narration of Zuhrah ibn ʿAmr ibn Maʿbad al-Taymī from Abū Ḥāzim from Sahl ibn Saʿd, who said: I witnessed the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when his incisor was broken, his face was wounded, and the helmet on his head was shattered. I know who was washing the blood from his face, who was bringing water for him, and what was placed on his wound until the bleeding stopped. It was Fāṭimah, the daughter of Muḥammad, the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), who was washing the blood from his face, and ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) was bringing water to her in a shield. When she washed the blood from her father's face, she burned a mat until it became ashes, took some of those ashes, and placed them on his face until the bleeding stopped. Then he said on that day: "The wrath of Allāh is severe upon a people who have disfigured the face of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." Then he remained silent for a while, then said: "O Allāh! Forgive my people, for they do not know." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (6/200-201): narrated to us by Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār al-Ṣūfī: narrated to us by Dāwūd ibn ʿAmr al-Ḍabbī: narrated to us by Zuhrah ibn ʿAmr ibn Maʿbad al-Taymī ... I say: This isnād is ḥasan or ṣaḥīḥ; its narrators are trustworthy and well-known, except for Zuhrah, whom al-Bukhārī mentioned (2/1/443) and Ibn Abī Ḥātim (1/2/615) with three others narrating from him, and al-Bukhārī did not mention any criticism or praise about him, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (6/344). It is strange that al-Haythamī did not include the ḥadīth in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid," neither in the Battle of Uḥud nor elsewhere as far as I could review, nor did al-Basiyūnī mention it in "Fahāris al-Majmaʿ," nor did our brother Ḥamdī ʿAbd al-Majīd al-Salafī attribute it to him in his commentary on
