"Indeed, a servant from the servants of Allāh was sent by Allāh to his people; they denied him and wounded him, and he would wipe the blood from his forehead and say: 'O Allāh! Forgive my people, for they do not know.'" It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad," and by Aḥmad through the route of Ḥammād ibn Zayd from ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah from Abū Wāʾil from Ibn Masʿūd who said: When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) distributed the spoils of Ḥunayn at (al-Jiʿrānah), they crowded around him, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it. ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd said: It is as if I am looking at the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) imitating the man wiping his forehead. I said: And this isnād is good, its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs, except that they only recorded from ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah when paired, as in "al-Taqrīb." Ḥammād ibn Salamah followed Ḥammād ibn Zayd from ʿĀṣim with a similar narration with an addition; he said: A man from the Anṣār spoke a word that contained resentment towards the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and I could not rest until I informed the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) about it, and I wished I could have redeemed it with all my family and wealth. He said: "They harmed Mūsá (peace be upon him) more than that, and he was patient," then he informed that a prophet was denied by his people and wounded when he came to them with Allāh's command, and he said—while wiping the blood from his face—: "O Allāh, forgive my people; for they do not know." It was also recorded by Aḥmad with a good isnād as well. ʿĀṣim was followed by al-Aʿmash who said: Shaqīq narrated to me a shortened version, and ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd said:
