al-Laythī said: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said—while we were sitting on a mat—"There will be a tribulation." They asked, "What should we do, O Messenger of Allāh?!" He reached out his hand to the mat and held it, then said, "You should do this." And he mentioned to them one day: "There will be a tribulation," but many people did not hear him. So Muʿādh ibn Jabal said, "Do you not hear what the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) is saying?!" They asked, "What did he say?!" He said: ... and he mentioned it. And he said, "It is not narrated from Abū Wāqid except through the ḥadīth of Bukayr." I said: He is reliable, from the men of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], and likewise the rest of the men of the isnād are reliable, men of the "Ṣaḥīḥ"; except that ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ has some weakness, but he has been followed up: al-Ṭaḥāwī said in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (2/68): Yūnus ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlá narrated to us: Yaḥyá ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Bukayr narrated to us: al-Layth narrated it to me. I said: And this isnād is authentic, all its men are reliable, men of Muslim, so the ḥadīth is authentic, and all praise is due to Allāh, the Exalted. (Note): Busrah ibn Saʿīd—the devout Madinan—was mistakenly altered in "al-Mushkil" to "Bashīr ibn Saʿd"! The commentator on it said: "Perhaps it is Bashīr ibn Saʿd ibn al-Nuʿmān, who witnessed Uḥud and other events with his father, as in 'al-Tajrīd ... ' ... "! I said: This is far from being accurate; for several reasons:
