the sky and then said: "Where is Allāh?!" Ibn ʿUmar then bought the shepherd and the sheep, freed him, and gave him the sheep. This was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (12/263/13054): Muḥammad ibn Naṣr al-Ṣāʾigh narrated to us: Abū Muṣʿab narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith al-Jumaḥī narrated to us: Zayd ibn Aslam narrated it. I said: This isnād is authentic; its narrators are trustworthy and mentioned in "al-Tahdhīb," except for al-Ṭabarānī's shaykh, Muḥammad ibn Naṣr al-Ṣāʾigh, who is trustworthy and mentioned in "Tārīkh Baghdād" (3/318-319), and he died in the year 297. This report was used as evidence by al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī in "al-ʿUluw," where he mentioned it as attributed to Abū Muṣʿab al-Zuhrī. I had previously authenticated its isnād in "Mukhtaṣar" (127) without having seen its complete chain, but now I have found it, and all praise is due to Allāh. Al-Haythamī said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (9/347): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and its narrators are those of the authentic collections, except for ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith al-Ḥāṭibī, who is trustworthy." In summary, the most authentic of the aforementioned ḥadīths is indeed the ḥadīth of Muʿāwiyah. It is no wonder that scholars—both ḥadīth scholars and jurists—have unanimously agreed on its authenticity throughout the ages without any disagreement among them. The five who included it in their "Ṣaḥīḥ" collections authenticated it, as mentioned earlier, as did al-Bayhaqī in "al-Asmāʾ" (422), al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (3/239), al-Dhahabī as will be mentioned, and al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Fatḥ" (13/359). All of these declared the ḥadīth and its isnād authentic, and they are joined by all who used the ḥadīth as evidence among the imams of ḥadīth and fiqh
