- "When he saw something he liked, he would say: 'All praise is due to Allāh, by whose blessing good deeds are completed.' And when he saw something he disliked, he would say: 'All praise is due to Allāh in all circumstances.'" It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (2/422), Ibn al-Sunnī (no. 372), and al-Ḥākim (1/499) through the route of al-Walīd ibn Muslim, who narrated to us from Zuhair ibn Muḥammad, from Manṣūr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his mother Ṣafiyyah bint Shaybah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: and she mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him and did not comment on it, but there is a consideration, because Zuhair ibn Muḥammad, who is al-Tamīmī al-Khurāsānī then al-Shāmī, is spoken about. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "The narration of the people of al-Shām from him is not reliable, so he was weakened because of it. Al-Bukhārī said about Aḥmad: It is as if Zuhair, from whom the people of al-Shām narrate, is another [person]! Abū Ḥātim said: He narrated in al-Shām from his memory, so his mistakes increased." I say: And this is from the narration of the people of al-Shām from him, and he is al-Walīd ibn Muslim. Moreover, he used to practice tadlīs al-taswiyah, and he did not explicitly state the transmission from the rest of the narrators in the chain, so this is another defect. From this, you learn the error in al-Ḥākim's authentication of it, and similarly the statement of al-Būṣīrī in "al-Zawāʾid": "Its isnād is authentic, and its men are trustworthy!" And similarly the statement of al-Nawawī in "al-Adhkār," even though his commentator Ibn ʿAllān (6/271) agreed with him: "It was narrated by Ibn Mājah and Ibn al-Sunnī with a good isnād!" All of this is an oversight of what we have clarified regarding the defect of the ḥadīth from this aspect. Yes, I found a supporting narration for the ḥadīth from Abū Hurayrah with the wording: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) had two praises known: when something he disliked came to him, he would say: 'All praise is due to Allāh in all..
