"Wakīʿ heard from al-Masʿūdī in Kūfah long ago, and Abū Nuʿaym also, but al-Masʿūdī became confused in Baghdad. Whoever heard from him in Basra and Kūfah; his hearing is sound." He mentioned something similar elsewhere (2/130-131); and added: "As for Yazīd ibn Hārūn, Ḥajjāj, and those who heard from him in Baghdad; it is in confusion." Based on this, the isnād is sound; because al-Ṭayālisī is from Basra as mentioned earlier. This is the first matter. The other matter: Ibn Maʿīn authenticated al-Masʿūdī's ḥadīths from al-Qāsim and from ʿAwn; as in "al-Tahdhīb," and this is from his narration from ʿAwn as you see, so the ḥadīth is authentic, and all praise is due to Allāh. In the ḥadīth of Asad al-Sunnah: "with a black slave girl who does not articulate." In the ḥadīth of al-Ṭayālisī: "with a mute slave girl who does not articulate"; and with both of them: "Who is your Lord?" But ʿAwn was contradicted in the isnād of the ḥadīth from al-Zuhrī from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUtbah from a man of the Anṣār: that he brought a black slave girl and said: O Messenger of Allāh! I have a believing slave to free, if you see this one as a believer; should I free her?! He said: "Do you testify that there is no deity but Allāh?" She said: Yes, he said:
