"ḥasan gharīb, we do not know it except from the ḥadīth of Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq." I said: it would be as he said—after Ibn Isḥāq explicitly stated the narration—if his teacher al-Muṭṭalib ibn ʿAbd Allāh was known for integrity and precision, but this is not the case; because no one narrated from him except Ibn Isḥāq, and no one authenticated him except Ibn Ḥibbān (7/506), and therefore al-Dhahabī weakened his authentication by saying in "al-Kāshif": "authenticated!" al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Taqrīb" limited himself to saying about him: "acceptable." meaning: when corroborated, and he was corroborated by Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from Ibn ʿAbbās as previously mentioned, the ḥadīth—with it—is ḥasan if Allāh wills, and it is strengthened by the agreement of the scholars on it, as al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿAsākir (1/401) mentioned from Ibn al-Mundhir that he said: "None of our scholars doubt that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was born in the Year of the Elephant and was sent as a prophet at the age of forty in the Year of the Elephant."
