"Whoever enters a market and says: 'There is no deity but Allāh alone, without partner. To Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things competent,' Allāh will record for him a million good deeds and erase from him a million bad deeds." It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Duʿāʾ" (2/1167/793): ʿUbayd ibn Ghannām and al-Ḥaḍramī narrated to us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us: Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar narrated from al-Muhājir ibn Ḥabīb who said: I heard Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar say: I heard Ibn ʿUmar say: I heard ʿUmar (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) say: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say ... and he mentioned it. It was also narrated by ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad in "Zawāʾid al-Zuhd" (p. 214): Abū Bakr narrated it to us with the same chain; however, the mention of Sālim, ʿUmar, and its elevation to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was omitted! I suspect this is due to the copyist, because the chain revolves around Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah. The men of its isnād are trustworthy except for al-Muhājir ibn Ḥabīb, which is a distortion, and the correct name is "Muḥāṣir," and this correction is found in the isnād of this ḥadīth according to al-Dāraqutnī in "al-ʿIlal" (2/50), and he is deemed trustworthy by Ibn Ḥibbān, al-ʿAjlī, and al-Haythamī as previously explained in the preceding ḥadīth, and al-Ḥāfiẓ deemed its isnād good there. Therefore, some beginners in this field erred when they proceeded to weaken this ḥadīth from all its chains—of which he had seven; this being one of them—in a small treatise he issued titled "Exerting Effort in Verifying the Ḥadīths of the Market and Asceticism," meaning their weakening. There is no room now to discuss his conclusions regarding the weakening, but I will limit myself here to discussing what he relied upon in weakening this ḥadīth with this isnād, so that the readers may understand
