It was also recorded by Aḥmad, and al-Ḥākim (3/102) who said: "Authentic according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said. ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Thaqafī followed him: Ayūb narrated to us with it. It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (3705) who said: "A good authentic ḥadīth." Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm differed from them: Ayūb narrated to us from Abū Qilābah who said: When ʿUthmān (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) was killed, speakers stood in (Iliyāʾ)... etc., he did not mention Abū al-Ashʿath in his isnād. It was recorded by Aḥmad (4/235), and Ibn Abī Shaybah (12/41/12075). Its narrators are also trustworthy, and this Ismāʿīl is Ibn ʿUlayyah, but the connected isnād is more authentic, due to the agreement of two trustworthy narrators on it. There is supporting evidence narrated by Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) mentioned a tribulation and brought it near, then a man with his head covered passed by, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "This one will be upon guidance on that day." So I jumped up and took hold of ʿUthmān's shoulders, then I faced the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: This one? He said: This one." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (1/41/111), and Ibn Abī Shaybah (12/41/12074), and from him by Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim (1297), and Aḥmad (4/242 and 243) through two routes from him. Its narrators are trustworthy, so the isnād is authentic if Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn heard from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah; they mentioned that Abū Ḥātim said: He did not hear from him, although his age would have allowed him to hear
