as for al-Mukhāriq ibn Sulaym—who is al-Shaybānī—he is a Tābiʿī as mentioned in this narration, and Ibn Ḥibbān explicitly stated this by including him in "Thiqāt al-Tābiʿīn" (5/444) through the narration of his son ʿAbd Allāh from him. He also added a second son narrating from him: Qābūs, in "al-Tahdhīb." It appears that he did not differentiate between this al-Mukhāriq ibn Sulaym al-Shaybānī, from whom Abū Isḥāq al-Shaybānī narrated, and Mukhāriq Abū Qābūs, from whom his son Qābūs narrated. Al-Bukhārī mentioned them in two places, as did Ibn Abī Ḥātim, contrary to Ibn Ḥibbān; for he mentioned in the biography of Abū Qābūs that he narrated from ʿAlī and ʿAmmār, and this was mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim in al-Shaybānī. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Mukhāriq ibn Sulaym al-Shaybānī Abū Qābūs, there is a difference of opinion regarding his companionship, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him among the trustworthy Tābiʿīn." As for al-Dhahabī; he asserted in "al-Kāshif" that he is a Companion! I say: someone like him is ḥasan in ḥadīth, if Allāh wills. Al-Haythamī said about the ḥadīth in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (5/326): "It was narrated by Aḥmad—and its isnād is disconnected—, Abū Yaʿlá, al-Bazzār, and al-Ṭabarānī, and it includes Isḥāq ibn Abī Isḥāq al-Shaybānī, from whom a group narrated, and no one weakened him, and the rest of one of al-Ṭabarānī's isnāds are trustworthy."
