- "Make some of your prayers in your homes, and do not make them like graves, as the Jews and Christians made graves in their homes. Indeed, the house in which the Quran is recited appears to the inhabitants of the heavens as the stars appear to the inhabitants of the earth." It was recorded by al-Dhahabī in "Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ" (8/26-27) through the chain of al-Sarrāj: Abū Rajāʾ Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd narrated to us: Ibn Lahīʿah narrated to us from Abū al-Aswad from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said... and he mentioned it. It was also recorded by Aḥmad (6/65): Ḥasan narrated to us: Ibn Lahīʿah narrated to us with it, without his saying: "as they made..." etc. I say: This is a good isnād because Qutaybah is reliable in ḥadīth from Ibn Lahīʿah, as previously verified under ḥadīth (957 - the new edition of the second volume); hence, al-Dhahabī said after the ḥadīth: "This is a clean isnād, good text, it contains a prohibition against burying in homes, and it has a supporting narration from another route. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) prohibited building over graves, and if people were buried in their homes, the cemetery and homes would become one, and prayer in the cemetery is prohibited either as a disliked act or as a prohibition. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'The best prayer of a man is in his house except for the obligatory [prayer].'" Thus, it is appropriate that homes should not be made into graves. As for his burial in the house of ʿĀʾishah, may Allāh's prayers and peace be upon him, it was specific to him, just as he was specifically given a rug spread under him in his grave, and as he was specifically prayed over individually without an imam, for he was their imam in life and death in this world and the Hereafter, and as he was specifically delayed in burial for two days, unlike..
