and the ḥadīth was mentioned by al-Haythamī (8/60): "It was narrated by Aḥmad, and its men are the men of the authentic collections, except Kathīr ibn Abī Kathīr, and he is trustworthy." The narrator of the ḥadīth, Qatādah (may Allāh have mercy on him), acted upon it, as ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated in "al-Muṣannaf" (11/25) from Maʿmar from him, saying: "It is disliked for a person to sit with part of him in the shade and part of him in the sun." And he narrated before that from Maʿmar also from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir from Abū Hurayrah, who said: "If one of you is in the shade and it recedes from him, let him stand up; for it is the sitting place of Satan." ʿAbd al-Wārith followed him: Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir narrated it to us with it; but he elevated it. It was narrated by Aḥmad (2/383). Both the mawqūf and marfūʿ narrations have trustworthy men. Sufyān differed in his isnād and said: from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said: Someone who heard Abū Hurayrah told me that Abū al-Qāsim said (... and he mentioned it elevated similarly with the wording: "If one of you is in the sun (and in another narration: in the shade), and the shade recedes from him, and part of him is in the sun and part of him in the shade; let him stand up." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (4821); and through his route: al-Bayhaqī (3/236). I say: Perhaps Sufyān's narration is more authentic in terms of connection and elevation. As for the connection; it is because Ibn al-Munkadir did not hear from Abū Hurayrah as mentioned in his biography. As for the elevation; due to the previous narration of Abū ʿIyāḍ from Abū Hurayrah, and perhaps this Abū ʿIyāḍ is the intermediary between Ibn al-Munkadir and Abū Hurayrah. Ismāʿīl ibn Muslim differed from all of them and said: from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir from Jābir:
