and the third is that it has another chain from Ibn ʿAmr, narrated by Muḥammad ibn Kathīr from al-Awzāʿī from Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr from Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from him, elevated [to the Prophet] with the wording: "A man will be buried in Mecca, named ʿAbd Allāh, upon whom will be half the punishment of the world." It was recorded by al-Bazzār (2/47-48, al-Kashf) and he said, "Muḥammad ibn Kathīr narrated it this way, but he was not followed on this isnād. ʿAbd said: from al-Awzāʿī from a man from the family of al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah from al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah from ʿUthmān." I said: And regarding this Ibn Kathīr, al-Haythamī criticized him, saying (3/284): "Ṣāliḥ ibn Muḥammad, Ibn Saʿd, and Ibn Ḥibbān considered him trustworthy, but Aḥmad weakened him." And through his chain, it was also recorded by Ibn ʿAsākir in "al-Tārīkh" (9/273). As for al-Bazzār's statement mentioned earlier: "ʿAbdah said: from al-Awzāʿī from a man from the family of al-Mughīrah..." etc., I did not find anyone who connected it from ʿAbdah from al-Awzāʿī with this. Rather, Aḥmad connected it from al-Walīd ibn Muslim from al-Awzāʿī with another isnād for it, as will come, and I suspect that the man from the family of al-Mughīrah is Jaʿfar ibn Abī al-Mughīrah; for it was narrated from his chain by Yaʿqūb ibn ʿAbd Allāh from him from Ibn Abzá from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr said to him when he was besieged: "I have camels prepared for you; would you like to move to Mecca so that those who wish to come to you can do so?" He said: No; I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: "A ram from Quraysh named ʿAbd Allāh will be buried in Mecca, upon whom will be like half the burdens of the people." It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/64), and also by al-Bazzār, and Ibn ʿAsākir (9/273), and al-Haythamī said after attributing it to the first two: "And its men are trustworthy."
