I said: And this isnād consists of narrators who are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for Muḥammad ibn Kunāsah—who is Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlá ibn Kunāsah al-Kūfī—and he is trustworthy, but Abū Ḥātim said: "He was a collector of reports, his ḥadīth is written but not used as proof." I said: Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim disagreed with him, as Aḥmad said in the Musnad of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr (2/219): Hāshim narrated to us: Isḥāq narrated to us—meaning: Ibn Saʿīd—Saʿīd ibn ʿAmr narrated to us, he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr came to Ibn al-Zubayr while he was sitting in the Hijr and said: O Ibn al-Zubayr! Beware of deviation... the ḥadīth is similar, he said: so see that you are not him, O Ibn ʿAmr! For you have read the scriptures and accompanied the Messenger (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), he said: I bear witness to you that this is my direction towards Shām as a warrior. I said: And this isnād is authentic, all its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, so it is more authentic than the previous one; for Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim—who is Abū al-Naḍr al-Laythī, their client from Baghdad—the ḥāfiẓ said about him: "Trustworthy, reliable." And he said about the previous one—ibn Kunāsah: "Truthful." And al-Haythamī said about this ḥadīth of ibn Kunāsah (3/258): "Aḥmad narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy." And he said about the ḥadīth of Hāshim: "Aḥmad narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the authentic collections."
