as for Muḥammad—who is the son of al-Qāsim as mentioned in another ḥadīth before this one in Ibn ʿAdī—I did not know him. There is another chain for the ḥadīth with a different wording from Sālim, which has been mentioned earlier under number (674). Al-Bazzār also narrated it, and al-Haythamī referred to it after this text, saying (8/148): "Al-Bazzār narrated it with two chains whose narrators are trustworthy."
- (Whoever attributes to me what I did not say, let him take his seat in the Fire). It has been reported from a group of Companions (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhum) with this wording, and I will present what I have been able to find from the chains about them that can be used as evidence or cited. The first: ʿUthmān (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu); narrated by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Zinād from his father from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ who said: I heard ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) say: Nothing prevents me from narrating from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) except that I am not the most retentive of his Companions, but I testify that I heard him say ... and he mentioned it. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (3/2/209), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (1/166), Aḥmad (1/65), and al-Bazzār (1/113/205). I say: This is a good chain due to the well-known disagreement regarding ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Zinād, and Shaykh Aḥmad Shākir (raḥimahu Allāh) authenticated it in his commentary on "al-Musnad" (1/363). The second: Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu); and there are multiple chains from him: the first: from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr who said: Abū Salamah narrated to us from Abū Hurayrah from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said ... and he mentioned it. It was narrated by Ibn Mājah (34), and Ibn Ḥibbān (number 28 - al-Iḥsān)
