Abū Saʿīd said: O Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān! Did you not hear that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Whoever can avoid sleeping a sleep, or waking up in the morning, or spending the evening without having an amīr over him, let him do so"?! He said: Yes, but I dislike pledging allegiance to two amīrs before the people unite under one amīr. It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/29-30). I said: And this Bishr ibn Ḥarb is considered weak by most, and al-Dhahabī said in "al-Kāshif": "Weak." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "Truthful but has some leniency." 2- As for the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah; it is narrated by Abū Hilāl from Qatādah from Saʿīd from him similar to the ḥadīth of the translation. It was recorded by al-Bazzār in "Musnad" (2/235/1595), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" (4/320/2534 - Majmaʿ al-Baḥrayn), and Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (6/213). And Abū Hilāl is Muḥammad ibn Salīm al-Rāsibī, truthful but has some leniency; however, he was contradicted in his isnād. Ibn ʿAdī recorded it from the route of Abū al-Walīd from Hammām from Qatādah from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib with it mursal. Ibn ʿAdī mentioned from Abū Mūsá Muḥammad ibn al-Muthanná—the narrator from Abū al-Walīd—that he said: "I said to Abū al-Walīd: Indeed, Abū Hilāl narrated from Qatādah from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)! Abū al-Walīd said to me: O Abū Mūsá! Abū Hilāl cannot bear this."
