From this clarification, it becomes evident the leniency—or error—of the commentator on "Majmaʿ al-Baḥrayn" when he said (8/128) under the ḥadīth of Layth ibn Abī Sulaym that follows: "However, al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in 'al-Kabīr' (12/71) in a similar manner, and its isnād is good"! The correct statement should be: "Its isnād is good due to other supporting evidence." Regarding the narration of Layth mentioned; it was recorded by al-Bazzār (4/176/3480) through the route of ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād from Layth from Ṭāwūs from Ibn ʿAbbās with it. It was also recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (11/33/10953) and "al-Awsaṭ" (1/162/1/3022) where he said: "No one narrated this ḥadīth except ʿAbd al-Wāḥid." I say: He is trustworthy, as are all the other narrators; however, Layth had become confused, so he is among those suitable for citation, and he narrated it with another isnād; he said: from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from his father from Ibn ʿAbbās with it, similar to the narration of Yaʿlá, the father of Yaḥyá, except for the second part of it. It was recorded by al-Bazzār (2/210/1536), and Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in "al-Sunnah" (2/246/745 and 359/773) in an abbreviated form. It was recorded by Aḥmad and his son ʿAbd Allāh in his additions (1/257) with the second part only, except in an abbreviated form with the wording: "And I will precede you to the Basin; whoever arrives will succeed. And people will be brought..." the ḥadīth. Among the peculiarities is the statement of Shaykh Aḥmad Shākir, may Allāh have mercy on him, in his commentary on "al-Musnad" (4/94)
ومن هذا البيان يتضح تساهل- أو خطأ- المعلق على "مجمع البحرين" حين قال (٨/١٢٨) تحت حديث ليث بن أبي سليم الآتي: "لكن رواه الطبراني في "الكبير" (١٢/ ٧١) بنحوه، وإسناده حسن"! والصواب أن يقال: "إسناده حسن لغيره". لرواية ليث المشار إليها؛ أخرجها البزار (٤/١٧٦/ ٣٤٨٠) من طريق عبد الواحد ابن زياد عن ليث عن طاوس عن ابن عباس به. وأخرجه الطبراني في "المعجم الكبير" (١١/٣٣/١٠٩٥٣)، و"الأوسط" (١/١٦٢/١/ ٣٠٢٢) وقال: "لم يرو هذا الحديث إلا عبد الواحد". قلت: وهو ثقة، وكذلك سائر الرواة؛ لكن الليث كان اختلط، فهو ممن يصلح للاستشهاد به، وقد رواه باسناد آخر؛ فقال: عن عبد الملك بن سعيد بن جبير عن أبيه عن ابن عباس به مثل رواية يعلى والد يحيى دون الشطر الثاني منه. أخرجه البزار (٢/٢١٠/١٥٣٦)، وابن أبي عاصم في "السنة" (٢/٢٤٦/٧٤٥ و٣٥٩/٧٧٣) مختصراً. وأخرجه أحمد وابنه عبد الله في زوائده (١/٢٥٧) بالشطر الثاني دون ما قبله إلا مختصراً بلفظ: "وأنا فرطكم على الحوض؛ فمن ورد أفلح. ويؤتى بأقوام.." الحديث. ومن الغرائب قول الشيخ أحمد شاكر ﵀ في تعليقه على "المسند" (٤/٩٤).
