- "A woman should not perform ḥajj except with a maḥram." It was recorded by al-Bazzār in "his Musnad": ʿAmr ibn ʿAlī narrated to us: Abū ʿĀṣim narrated from Ibn Jurayj: ʿAmr ibn Dīnār informed me: that he heard Maʿbad, the freed slave of Ibn ʿAbbās, narrating from Ibn ʿAbbās that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said ... and he mentioned it. A man said: "O Prophet of Allāh! I have been enlisted for such and such expedition and my wife is performing ḥajj?" He said: "Return and perform ḥajj with her." This is how it is in "Naṣb al-Rāyah" (2/10). I say: al-Ṭaḥāwī also narrated it in "Sharḥ al-Maʿānī" (1/356) through another chain from Abū ʿĀṣim with it, but he did not provide its wording. It was also recorded by al-Dāraqutnī in "his Sunan" (2/222/30) through the route of Abū Ḥumayd who said: I heard Ḥajjāj saying: Ibn Jurayj said from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār with the wording: A man came to Madīnah, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Where have you stayed?" He said: "With so-and-so!" He said: "Did you close her door upon you? A woman should not perform ḥajj except with a maḥram."
