al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (1/144): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār, and its men are the men of (al-Ṣaḥīḥ)." The first sentence of it did not occur with him. Its isnād is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim; however, in its isnād, Yazīd ibn al-Hād is added between al-Walīd and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār, and the mention of Yazīd ibn al-Hād in it is preserved; for it was narrated by Ḥayywah ibn Sharīḥ from Ibn al-Hād from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār with the segment of righteousness only. Muslim also recorded it. It is possible that al-Walīd first received it from Ibn al-Hād from Ibn Dīnār; as in the narration of Nāfiʿ ibn Yazīd, then received it directly from Ibn Dīnār; as in the narration of Ḥayywah with Aḥmad, and Saʿīd ibn Abī Ayyūb with Muslim. And Allāh knows best. The intended meaning is that these authentic narrations indicate that the ḥadīth is the ḥadīth of al-Walīd, the trustworthy; and not the ḥadīth of al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Faḍl, the abandoned. As for the supporting evidence; it is from the ḥadīth of Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ, and there are several paths from him: the first: from ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Naṣrī who said: I heard Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it similar to the ḥadīth of al-Bazzār from Ibn ʿUmar. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (3509), Aḥmad (4/106), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (22/70/171-180). The second: from Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd who said: I heard Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ with it. It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1/118/32- al-Iḥsān), and al-Ḥākim (4/398) through the path of Aḥmad—this is in "al-Musnad" (3/490 and 491)—, and al-Ṭabarānī (164); all of them through the path of Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ from him.
