and Ibn Abī Laylá is Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylá, and he is weak in terms of his memory. He narrated it once with another isnād; Aḥmad said (5/402): Wakīʿ narrated to us from Ibn Abī Laylá from a shaykh called Hilāl from Ḥudhayfah who said: I asked... the ḥadīth. And likewise said Ibn Abī Shaybah. The correct narration is his first one from Abū Dharr, corroborated by the narration of Abū Baṣrah al-Ghifārī and Mujāhid from him. And Allāh knows best. It was narrated by Abū al-Aḥwaṣ from Abū Dharr in a marfūʿ form with the wording: "When one of you stands for prayer, do not wipe the pebbles, for mercy faces him." In this wording, it is weak as I have verified in "al-Irwāʾ" (2/97/377). In "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī" (1207) and "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim" (546), there is supporting evidence for it from the ḥadīth of Muʿayqīb (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu).
- (Indeed, one of the greatest lies is to claim that one's eyes have seen in a dream what they have not seen). It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/96) - and this is his wording - and al-Bukhārī (7043) through the route of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār - the client of Ibn ʿUmar - from his father from Ibn ʿUmar that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it. I said: And this ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, despite being one of al-Bukhārī's narrators, has weakness in his memory; the ḥāfiẓ has deemed him acceptable in "al-Fatḥ"; he said under this ḥadīth (12/420): "There is disagreement about him; Ibn al-Madīnī said: He is truthful. Ibn Maʿīn said: In my view, his ḥadīth is weak. Al-Dāraquṭnī said: Al-Bukhārī disagreed with people about him; he is not abandoned. I said (the ḥāfiẓ):
