- "Recite the Quran, but do not exaggerate in it, do not neglect it, do not consume it [for worldly gain], and do not seek abundance through it." It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/428): Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us from Hishām—meaning: al-Dastuwāʾī—who said: Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr narrated to me (original: Namīr!) from Abū Rāshid al-Ḥubranī who said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Shibl said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say ... and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic if Yaḥyá heard it from Abū Rāshid al-Ḥubranī; for he is described with some tadlīs; but it has been authenticated in some of his narrations that he received it from Zayd ibn Salām ibn Abī Salām (Mamṭūr al-Ḥabashī) from Abū Salām from Abū Rāshid al-Ḥubranī as will be mentioned. Then it was recorded by Aḥmad, and Ibn Abī Shaybah (2/400-401) who said: Wakīʿ narrated to us from al-Dastuwāʾī with it. And Ayyūb followed him from Yaḥyá from Abū Rāshid with it. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" (1/143/1/2741). And it was recorded by Aḥmad (3/444), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Sharḥ al-Maʿānī" (2/10), and Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (3/88/1518), and from him by Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (9/9707) through the route of Abān: Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr narrated to us: Zayd narrated to me from Abū Salām from al-Ḥubranī with it. I say: This isnād is authentic and connected, and the ḥāfiẓ said (9/101)—after attributing it to Aḥmad and Abū Yaʿlá—: "And its isnād is strong."
