A man from the people of Paradise will be brought, and [Allāh] will say to him: "O son of Adam! How did you find your abode?" He will say: "O my Lord! It is the best abode." [Allāh] will say: "Ask and wish." He will say: "What should I ask and wish for? Except that You return me to the world so that I may be killed in Your cause ten times, because of what he sees of the virtue of martyrdom." (And in another narration: "of the honor.") And a man from the people of Hell will be brought, and [Allāh] will say to him: "O son of Adam! How did you find your abode?" He will say: "O my Lord! It is the worst abode." [The Lord ﷿] will say to him: "Would you ransom yourself from it with the fill of the earth in gold?" He will say: "O my Lord! Yes." [Allāh] will say: "You have lied. I asked you for less than that and easier, but you did not do it." So he will be returned to the Fire. It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/207-208 and 239), Ibn Ḥibbān (9/224/7306), and al-Ḥākim (2/75) through various chains from Ḥammād ibn Salamah, from Thābit, from Anas (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and al-Mundhirī acknowledged it in "al-Targhīb" (2/189), and it is as they said, and the three additions are from al-Ḥākim. Al-Nasāʾī has the first part of it only in the beginning of (al-Jihād), and it is a narration for Aḥmad (3/126, 131, 153, and 284) from this chain. It was also narrated by al-Bukhārī (2817), Muslim (6/35), Ibn Ḥibbān (7307), and Aḥmad (3/103, 173, 251, 276, and 278) from the path of Qatādah, from (in a narration: I heard) Anas ibn Mālik saying... and he mentioned it. And in it is the other wording. In another narration from Qatādah, it is more complete than what is here, and it was previously mentioned under number (172) along with the narration of Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī from Anas
