I said: This is a sound chain of narration according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Sufyān is Ibn ʿUyaynah, and it was also recorded through his route by al-Tirmidhī in "al-Shamāʾil" (no. 205), Abū al-Shaykh in "Akhlaqih ﷺ" (pp. 227 and 228), and al-Ḥākim (4/137) who authenticated it, and also by al-Tirmidhī in "al-Sunan" (no. 1896), who critiqued it for being mursal, saying: "This is how more than one narrated it from Ibn ʿUyaynah from Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah, but the correct version is what is narrated from al-Zuhrī from the Prophet ﷺ as mursal." Then he presented it through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak: Maʿmar and Yūnus informed us from al-Zuhrī: that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was asked: Which drink is the best? He said: "The sweet and cold one." And he said: "This is how ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated it from Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from the Prophet ﷺ as mursal, and this is more authentic than the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUyaynah." What he mentioned about ʿAbd al-Razzāq is likewise in "Muṣannaf" (10/426) as mursal, and it is the more likely of the two narrations from al-Zuhrī. Al-Ḥākim mentioned a corroborating narration for the connected version through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá ibn ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr: narrated by Hishām ibn ʿUrwah from his father from ʿĀʾishah with it. It was also recorded by Abū al-Shaykh. I said: However, it is not suitable as corroboration due to its severe weakness, and thus al-Dhahabī critiqued it by saying afterwards: "I said: ʿAbd Allāh is ruined." Ibn Ḥibbān said in "al-Majrūḥīn" (2/11): "He narrates from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, and Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir al-Ḥazāmī narrated from him. He was among those who narrated fabrications from reliable narrators and attributed to Hishām ibn ʿUrwah what Hishām never narrated. It is not permissible to write his ḥadīth or narrate from him."
