he said: A man from the Anṣār told me that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to, whenever he performed ablution or spat, those around him from the Muslims would rush to take his ablution water and his spittle, drink it, and wipe it on their skins. When he saw them doing this, he asked them: Why do you do this? They said: We seek purity and blessing through it. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Whoever among you loves that Allāh and His Messenger love him, let him speak the truth, fulfill the trust, and not harm his neighbor." This was mentioned by Imām al-Shāṭibī in his valuable book "al-Iʿtiṣām" (2/139 - al-Manār), and it was narrated by ʿAbd al-Razzāq in "al-Muṣannaf" (11/7/19748) from Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī with it. I said: And this isnād [chain of transmission] has trustworthy men except for the Anṣārī man. If he is a Tābiʿī, it is mursal, and it is acceptable as supporting evidence. If he is a Companion, it is a sound musnad because the unknown name of a Companion does not harm, as is established in the science of ḥadīth. It is most likely that he is Anas ibn Mālik (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who is in the first path, as he is an Anṣārī and Imām al-Zuhrī narrates from him frequently. It is supported by what precedes it despite its weakness. And Allāh knows best. Secondly: What was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (1/152/1): Muḥammad ibn Zurayq narrated to us: Muḥammad ibn Hishām al-Sadūsī narrated to us: ʿUbayd ibn Wāqid al-Qaysī narrated to us: Yaḥyá ibn Abī ʿAṭāʾ narrated from ʿUmayr ibn Yazīd from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith from Abū Qurād al-Sulamī who said: We were with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he called for purification water, dipped his hand in it, then performed ablution. We followed him and drank it. He (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "What made you do what you did?" We said: Love of Allāh and His Messenger. He said: "If you love that Allāh and His Messenger love you, then fulfill when you are entrusted, speak the truth when you speak, and be good neighbors to those who are near you." And he said:
