Yūnus from Ibn Shihāb said: Abū Umāmah ibn Sahl ibn Ḥunayf informed me that some of the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) from the Anṣār informed him that... and he mentioned the ḥadīth in a similar manner. It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (4472) and Ibn al-Jārūd in "al-Muntaqá" (277/817) through two chains from him. I say: This isnād is authentic; its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for the contradiction. As for the statement of al-Ḥāfiẓ in "Bulūgh al-Marām" (4/16-17 - Subul al-Salām): "It was narrated by Aḥmad, al-Nasāʾī, and Ibn Mājah, and its isnād is ḥasan, but they differed regarding its continuity and its being sent." he means the first path, and in that case, there is a consideration in his grading due to the ʿanʿanah of Ibn Isḥāq with the three he mentioned, and the other three I mentioned as previously. As for the isnād of Abū Dāwūd, it is authentic with the aforementioned caution, and the anonymity of the name of the Companion does not harm, as it has been named in three ways: first: Sahl ibn Ḥunayf, narrated by Abū al-Zanād from Abū Umāmah ibn Sahl ibn Ḥunayf from his father who said: and he mentioned it. It was recorded by al-Dāraquṭnī (3/100, no. 67), and al-Ṭabarānī (no. 5565) with two weak chains from him, and al-Zuhrī followed him from Abū Umāmah with it.
