"He forbade us from eating the food (in another narration: gift) of the Bedouins." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/128), Aḥmad (6/133), and al-Bazzār (2/395) through various chains from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥarmalah al-Aslamī, who said: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār al-Aslamī narrating from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah, who said: Umm Sunbulah gifted milk to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and she brought it to me, but did not find him. I said to her: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) has forbidden us from eating the food of the Bedouins. Then the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and Abū Bakr entered, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "O Umm Sunbulah! What is this with you?" She said: Milk, O Messenger of Allāh, I brought it as a gift for you. He said: "Pour, Umm Sunbulah, and give to Abū Bakr." Then he said: "Pour, Umm Sunbulah, and give to ʿĀʾishah." Then he said: "Pour, Umm Sunbulah." So she gave it to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he drank. She said: I said: How refreshing it is for the liver! O Messenger of Allāh! You had forbidden the food of the Bedouins? He said: "O ʿĀʾishah! They are not Bedouins, they are the people of our desert, and we are the people of their city.
