- "I will never wear it. Meaning, a gold ring." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (7/412/5468 - al-Iḥsān): ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Azdī informed us, saying: Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith al-Makhzūmī narrated to us, saying: Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, saying: Ziyād ibn Saʿd informed me that Ibn Shihāb informed him that Anas ibn Mālik informed him: that he saw the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) one day with a gold ring on his hand, and the people were disturbed by the rings, so he threw it away and said: and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic; all its narrators are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs except for al-Makhzūmī, who is among the men of Muslim, and except for al-Azdī, the shaykh of Ibn Ḥibbān, who is a reliable memorizer, mentioned in "al-Siyar" (14/166) and "al-Shadharāt" (2/246) and others. This isnād has two unusual defects, one of them being the disagreement over ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith al-Makhzūmī. The other is the anomaly of Ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī compared to other ḥadīths. As for the first defect, Aḥmad said (3/206): Rūḥ narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj and ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith from Ibn Jurayj said: Ziyād ibn Saʿd informed me up to his saying: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) threw away his ring, so the people threw away their rings." He did not mention the ḥadīth of the chapter: "I will never wear it," and said: "of silver." This is a clear disagreement between Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm - who is Ibn Rāhwayh - and Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, regarding their shaykh al-Makhzūmī, as the former mentioned the ḥadīth of the chapter unlike the latter, and both are reliable, trustworthy, authoritative memorizer Imams
