Dhiyal said: I saw Ḥanẓalah being brought a person whose face was swollen, or an animal with a swollen udder. He would spit on his hands and say: In the name of Allāh, place his hand on the head, and say: on the spot where the hand of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was placed, and he would wipe it. Dhiyal said: the swelling would disappear. I said: This is a sound three-narrator chain, and al-Haythamī said (4/210-211): "It was narrated by Aḥmad, and its men are trustworthy." I say: Ḥanẓalah is a young Companion whom the Messenger (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) prayed for, as you see, and Dhiyal was deemed reliable by Ibn Maʿīn and Ibn Ḥibbān. The statement of al-Azdī: "there is doubt about him," should not be considered here, at least. Abū Saʿīd, the client of Banū Hāshim, whose name is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd al-Baṣrī, is a trustworthy narrator from the men of al-Bukhārī. He was followed by Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān: Dhiyal ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us with the first part of the story abbreviated. It was extracted by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (4/15/3499 and 3500). Its men are also trustworthy except for Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān, who is al-Qurashī, and his condition is known from what was previously explained in the ḥadīth before it.
- "Whoever sleeps with grease on his hand, and something happens to him, let him blame none but himself." This is from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), and there are two paths from him:
