Ismāʿīl—meaning Ibn Abī Khālid—narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Nāʿidh—a man from the people of al-Shām—who said: ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir al-Juhanī went to al-Masjid al-Aqṣá to pray there, and some people followed him. He said: "What brought you here?" They said: "You accompanied the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and we love to travel with you and greet you." He said: "Dismount and pray." So they dismounted, and he prayed, and they prayed with him. When he finished the prayer, he said: "I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: 'There is no servant who meets Allāh without associating anything with Him, and has not been stained with unlawful blood, except that he enters from any of the gates of Paradise he wishes.'" This is a strong corroboration from Yazīd ibn Hārūn, the trustworthy ḥāfiẓ, for Wakiʿ ibn al-Jarrāḥ. However, al-Qāsim ibn al-Walīd al-Hamdānī differed in his isnād, saying: "Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid narrated to us from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim from Jarīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) in a marfūʿ form similar to the wording of Yazīd." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim, who indicated that the first [narration] is the more likely, and al-Dhahabī followed him, saying: "I say: the first is more authentic." This is because al-Qāsim ibn al-Walīd contradicted Wakiʿ and Yazīd, and he is inferior to them in memory and precision. The ḥāfiẓ said about him: "Truthful but makes rare mistakes." The ḥadīth is found in al-Bukhārī in "Knowledge" from the narration of Anas in a marfūʿ form without the phrase: "has not been stained with unlawful blood." See "Mukhtaṣar al-Bukhārī" (85).
