and I found a strong corroborator for al-Alhānī, as al-Walīd ibn al-Walīd said: Ibn Thawbān narrated to us from Yaḥyá ibn al-Ḥārith from al-Qāsim with it. al-Ṭabarānī recorded it (8/212/7749) through two chains from him. I said: And this is a good isnād. al-Walīd ibn al-Walīd is al-ʿAnsī al-Qalansī al-Dimashqī. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (4/2/19) from his father: "Truthful, there is nothing wrong with his ḥadīth, his ḥadīth is authentic." And those above him are known from the men of al-Tahdhīb, with some discussion about some of them. And there is evidence for the revelation of the verse from the ḥadīth of Ibn Masʿūd that he was asked about this verse: *"And of mankind is he who purchases idle talk to mislead from the path of Allāh without knowledge"*? He said: "It is singing, by Him besides whom there is no deity, repeating it three times." It was recorded by Ibn Jarīr, and Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (6/309), and al-Ḥākim (2/411), and al-Bayhaqī (10/223), and al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic isnād." al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And it is as they said. And similarly, what is with Ibn Abī Shaybah (6/310), and al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (1265), and Ibn Jarīr (21/4), and Ibn Abī al-Dunyā (Q 4/1-2), and al-Bayhaqī (10/221) from the path of Manṣūr ibn Abī al-Aswad from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from Ibn ʿAbbās regarding this verse: *"who purchases idle talk."* He said: "It was revealed concerning singing and its likes." I said: And its men are trustworthy, so it is an authentic isnād except that Ibn al-Sāʾib had become confused, so it is a good witness at least
