Muʾammal said: I said to Sufyān: Is this recitation in the ḥadīth? He said: Yes. It was also narrated by Abū Dāwūd (3981), Ibn Jarīr in "al-Tafsīr" (15/108/17687 and 17688), and al-Ḥākim (2/240-241) who said: "Its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said, except that in his version, the verbs (fal-yafraḥū) and (yajmaʿūn) appear with the yāʾ. Similarly, the second verb appears in "al-Musnad," and I believe this is all an error by the copyist or printer, and the correct form is with the tāʾ, as it is the recitation of Ubayy, and the first is the recitation of the majority of the reciters, as Ibn Jarīr said. The mentioned sentence has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Anas (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) which was narrated by the two Shaykhs, Ibn Ḥibbān (9/139/7100), Aḥmad (3/130, 185, 218, 233, 273, 284), and others. The second ḥadīth: from Ibn ʿAbbās (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: "A man came to ʿUmar asking him, and he began to look at his head once, and at his feet another time, to see if he noticed any signs of poverty. Then ʿUmar said to him: How much wealth do you have? He said: Forty camels! Ibn ʿAbbās said: Allāh and His Messenger spoke the truth: 'If the son of Adam had two valleys of gold...' the ḥadīth. So ʿUmar said: What is this? I said: This is how Ubayy recited it to me. He said: Then let us go to him. He said: So he went to Ubayy, and said: What does this one say? Ubayy said: This is how the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) recited it to me."
