his seat, he would not sit in it. Muslim also recorded it. This has been reported from Ibn ʿUmar as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. Abū Dāwūd recorded it through the route of Abū al-Khaṣīb, whose name is Ziyād ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Ibn ʿUmar: A man came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and a man stood up for him from his seat to let him sit, but the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) forbade him. It is also recorded through the route of Saʿīd ibn Abī al-Ḥasan: Abū Bakrah came to us, and a man stood up for him from his seat, but he refused to sit in it and said: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) forbade this. Al-Ḥākim also recorded it and authenticated it from this route. I said: What he attributed to "al-Adab al-Mufrad" is with him (number 1153) with a ṣaḥīḥ isnād according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs, and it follows his marfūʿ ḥadīth with the wording: (The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) forbade a man to make another stand from his seat and then sit in it). It is also with Muslim. What he attributed to Abū Dāwūd from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar is with him (4/406) with an isnād whose men are all trustworthy except for Abū al-Khaṣīb. Abū Dāwūd commented on it as the ḥāfiẓ said: "His name is Ziyād ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān." I said: Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned it (1/2/538) without mentioning any criticism or commendation, and Ibn Ḥibbān included him in "al-Thiqāt" and in "al-Taqrīb": "Acceptable." Al-Mundhirī remained silent on the ḥadīth in "Mukhtaṣar al-Sunan" (7/184), so it is in..
