that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: "Shall I not teach you words to say when you go to your bed..." and he said: "It is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ gharīb." and the other with the wording: "I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) instruct a man, when he takes his resting place at night, to say..." and he mentioned it. It was narrated by al-Nasāʾī (778) through the route of Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd from him with the wording of action: "When he would go to..." Secondly: Sufyān al-Thawrī from him with the wording: "When you go to..." It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī (457/770) and Aḥmad (4/301) through the route of ʿAlī ibn Ḥafṣ: "al-Thawrī informed us of it." Thirdly: Shuʿbah from him that he heard al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib say: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) instructed a man with it." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (11/113/6313), Muslim, al-Nasāʾī (775), al-Ṭayālisī (97/708), Aḥmad (4/300), al-Ruyānī (2/84), and al-Ṭabarānī (2/902/241) through various routes from him with it. Abū al-Walīd al-Ṭayālisī differed and said from Shuʿbah... with the wording of action: "When he would take his resting place, he said:..." and he mentioned it. It was recorded by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" (4/173/4706) and he said: "They both recorded it in 'al-Ṣaḥīḥ' from the ḥadīth of Shuʿbah."
