so a man from the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would pass by and say to the merchant: "Woe to you, he has spoken the truth. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) indeed gave him the option for three days." He said: Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq informed us, Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá ibn Ḥabān informed us, saying: "I did not know Ibn al-Zubayr..." I said: He mentioned the ḥadīth as I previously transmitted it from "al-Muṣannif." Al-Bayhaqī included it in his "Sunan" (5/273) through the route of Yūnus: Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq narrated to us: Nāfiʿ narrated to me from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: "I heard a man from the Anṣār who had a speech impediment... the ḥadīth is like the narration of al-Dāraqutnī except for what is at its end from the narration of Ibn al-Zubayr, but it includes what is in the ḥadīth of the chapter regarding the option for three nights, and it includes: 'He would return to his sale and say: Take back your goods and return my money. He would say: I will not do it, I have accepted it and taken it away, until a man from the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would pass by him...'" Sufyān narrated it: Ibn Isḥāq narrated to me from Nāfiʿ from Ibn ʿUmar in a shortened form without the addition, and it includes the statement of Ibn ʿUmar: "I used to hear him say: No deception, no deception! And he would buy something and bring it to his family, and they would say: This is expensive, and he would say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) gave me the option in my sale." It was narrated by al-Dāraqutnī, al-Ḥākim (2/22), al-Bayhaqī, and Ibn al-Jārūd (567). Aḥmad said (2/129): Yaʿqūb narrated to us, my father narrated to us from Ibn Isḥāq, Nāfiʿ narrated to me without his saying: "And he would buy something..."
