your eyes will become weak, and you will become exhausted (in another narration: your soul will become fatigued). The one who fasts continuously will not have truly fasted; fasting three days of the month is like fasting the whole month." I said: I am capable of more than that. He said: "Then fast the fast of Dāwūd; he would fast one day and break his fast the next, and he would not flee when he met [the enemy]." Reported by al-Bukhārī (1979), Muslim (3/164-165), al-Nasāʾī (1/326), and Aḥmad (2/188-189). (your eyes will become weak) meaning: they will become sunken or weakened due to excessive wakefulness. (exhausted) meaning: emaciated and weakened. (fatigued) meaning: tired and weary "Fatḥ."
هجمت له العين، ونهكت (وفي رواية: ونفهت له النفس) ، لا صام من صام الأبد، صوم ثلاثة أيام من الشهر صوم الشهر كله ". قلت: فإني أطيق أكثر من ذلك. قال: " فصم صوم داود، كان يصوم يوما ويفطر يوما، ولا يفر إذا لاقى ". أخرجه البخاري (١٩٧٩) ومسلم (٣ / ١٦٤ - ١٦٥) والنسائي (١ / ٣٢٦) وأحمد (٢ / ١٨٨ - ١٨٩) . (هجمت) أي: غارت أو ضعفت لكثرة السهر. (نهكت) أي: هزلت وضعفت. (نفهت) أي: تعبت وكلت " فتح ".

- "This matter is in Quraysh; no one opposes them except that Allāh will cast him down on his face as long as they uphold the religion." Reported by al-Bukhārī (6/416 and 13/99), al-Dārimī (2/242), Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in "al-Sunnah" (1112), Aḥmad (4/94), and al-Ṭabarānī (19/337 and 779-81/3) through the route of al-Zuhrī who said: Muḥammad ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim used to narrate that it reached Muʿāwiyah—while he was with him in a delegation from Quraysh—that ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr was narrating that there would be a king from Qaḥṭān, so he became angry and stood up, praised Allāh as He deserves, and then said: "To proceed, it has reached me that some men among you are narrating ḥadīths that are not in the Book of Allāh, nor are they reported from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and those are your ignorant ones. So beware of the desires that mislead their people. I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say:" and he mentioned the ḥadīth
- " إن هذا الأمر في قريش لا يعاديهم أحد إلا كبه الله على وجهه ما أقاموا الدين". أخرجه البخاري (٦ / ٤١٦ و ١٣ / ٩٩) والدارمي (٢ / ٢٤٢) وابن أبي عاصم في " السنة " (١١١٢) وأحمد (٤ / ٩٤) والطبراني (١٩ / ٣٣٧ و ٧٧٩ - ٨١ / ٣) من طريق الزهري قال: كان محمد بن جبير بن مطعم يحدث أنه بلغ معاوية - وهو معه في وفد من قريش - أن عبد الله بن عمرو يحدث أنه سيكون ملك من قحطان، فغضب فقام فأثنى على الله بما هو أهله ثم قال: أما بعد فإنه بلغني أن رجالا منكم يحدثون أحاديث ليست في كتاب الله، ولا تؤثر عن رسول الله ﷺ، وأولئك جهالكم، فإياكم والأماني التي تضل أهلها، إني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: فذكر الحديث.
