"He narrates from Ibn ʿUmar, narrated from him by Qatādah, and Ḥakīm heard from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān." I found that some of the ḥadīth scholars had written in the margin: "al-ʿAjlī: He is a trustworthy Basran follower." Then Ibn Ḥazm mentioned from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr that a man said to Ibn ʿAbbās: I married a beautiful cousin of mine, and consummated the marriage in Ramaḍān. Is there any way for me—may my father and mother be sacrificed for you—to kiss her? Ibn ʿAbbās replied: Can you control yourself? He said: Yes. He said: Then kiss her. He said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, is there any way for me to have physical contact with her? He said: Can you control yourself? He said: Yes. He said: Then have contact with her. He said: Is there any way for me to touch her private parts with my hand? He said: Can you control yourself? He said: Yes. He said: Then touch. Ibn Ḥazm said: "This is the most authentic route from Ibn ʿAbbās." He said: "And from authentic routes from Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ that he was asked: Do you kiss while fasting? He said: Yes, and I hold her private parts. And from ʿAmr ibn Sharḥabīl that Ibn Masʿūd used to have physical contact with his wife in the middle of the day while fasting. This is the most authentic route from Ibn Masʿūd." I said: This narration of Ibn Masʿūd was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah (2/167/2) with an authentic chain according to their criteria, and the narration of Saʿd is with him in the wording "He said: Yes, and I take hold of her private parts."
