- "Confusion appeared to me like the fangs of dogs, and you will conquer it." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1709) and Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in "al-Waḥdān" (p. 269/1) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá ibn Abī ʿUmar al-ʿAdanī: narrated to us by Sufyān from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim from ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: (and he mentioned it). Then a man stood up and said: Grant me, O Messenger of Allāh, the daughter of Buqaylah. He said: "She is yours," so they gave her to him. Her father came and said: Will you follow me with her? He said: Yes. He said: For how much? He said: Set whatever price you wish. He said: For a thousand dirhams. He said: I have taken her. It was said: If you had said thirty thousand. He said: Is there a number greater than a thousand? I said: And this isnād is authentic, its men are trustworthy according to the criteria of Muslim. It was also recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (17/81/183) and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan" (9/136) and "al-Dalāʾil" (6/326) through other routes from al-ʿAdanī with it, except that al-Ṭabarānī said: "Her brother" instead of "Her father." Al-Haythamī said (6/212): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and its men are the men of the authentic." And he said following the narration of Ibn Ḥibbān from "Mawārid al-Ẓamʾān": "I said: Thus it appeared in this narration: that the one who bought her was her father, and the well-known is that the one who bought her was ʿAbd al-Masīḥ, her brother. And Allāh knows best."
